Different Types of Digital PR
Digital PR includes various types of campaigns, each designed to achieve specific objectives. By understanding these, you can identify the approach best aligning with the goals of your brand.
Quick-Win Campaigns
Quick-win campaigns are focused on generating immediate results with minimal effort. These campaigns frequently leverage existing content marketing materials or timeline opportunities to secure media coverage and backlinks.
By tapping into current trends or events with a digital PR campaign, you can quickly improve your brand’s visibility and engagement.
Hero Campaign (Surveys and Data)
Hero campaigns involve more comprehensive strategies, usually based on original research or unique data insights. These campaigns position your brand as a thought leader, providing valuable information to attract media attention and generate quality backlinks. They might also include interactive content or user-generated content in some cases.
By conducting surveys or gathering data relevant to your industry, you can create compelling narratives to resonate with both journalists and your audience.
Digital PR Example 1: EzLicense
Our digital PR campaign for EzLicense, an innovative online platform for learner drivers, is a testament to the effectiveness of Digital PR.
The goal of our digital PR strategy was to increase brand awareness and position EzLicense as an educational resource for young drivers and their parents across Australia.
The Challenge
EzLicense sought to boost online authority by reaching as many potential users as possible. This included engaging national and regional media to effectively target a broad audience.
The Campaigns
To achieve this, we launched two primary initiatives in this successful campaign:
- Pass Rate Paradise: This campaign analysed more than 30,450 driving test results to identify the top and bottom five test centres based on pass rate. This not only provided valuable insights for learner drivers but also generated media interest in the best and worst test centres across Australia.
- Ultimate Guide to Driving Lesson Costs: Recognizing the financial pressures many families face, this campaign compared driving lesson costs in various suburbs, highlighting the most and most expensive areas for lessons.
The Data
Using internal data from EzLicense, we ensured our analysis was accurate and relevant, focusing on states where driving tests are conducted with authorised examiners. The data gathered was pivotal in crafting compelling narratives that attract media coverage.
The Outreach
To effectively reach the target audience, we prioritised both national and regional online news publications. This involved connecting with:
- National and regional journalists
- General news and hyper-local journalists
- Hyper-local publications related to specific geographic areas
The Results
The campaign yielded remarkable success:
- Fifty pieces of online coverage, with 45 directly linking back to the campaign page on EzLicence’s website.
- An estimated 210.9 million views across various platforms, including major outlets like News.com.au, Daily Telegraph, and 7News.
- 63 average Domain Rating (DR) of the sites covering the campaign.
- Exposure to approximately 11.1 million social media followers.
- A total of 156 brand mentions reinforce EzLicence’s authority in the driving education space.
Amanda Butler, Head of Marketing at EzLicence, highlighted the collaboration with our team, stating, “We couldn’t be more proud of the results we’ve been able to achieve together.”
Digital PR Example 2: Reckon
Another one of our favourite digital PR case studies was our campaign for Reckon, an ASX-listed accounting software company aimed at small business owners. The objective was to enhance brand awareness and establish Reckon as a trusted ally for small businesses navigating the post-pandemic landscape.
The Challenge
Reckon wanted to reach existing and new small business owners, focusing on demonstrating how various Australian cities could be optimal locations to launch new ventures.
The Campaign
We developed the Startup Cities campaign, which evaluated Australia’s top 50 most populated cities based on key socioeconomic factors. The campaign aimed to uncover the best cities to start a business, considering aspects like the cost of living and access to talent.
The Data
Our comprehensive analysis incorporated 18 essential socioeconomic factors, which were grouped into four categories: Talent Pool, Business Landscape, Internet Speed and Cost of Living. Through this data-driven approach, we were able to craft compelling narratives appealing to journalists looking for relevant insights.
The Outreach
Similar to the EzLicense campaign, we focused on securing coverage from both national and local coverage, and our outreach strategy for these successful campaigns included:
- National, regional and local business journalists
- General news and local journalists
- Hyper-local publications and journalists with a focus on business or specific geographic areas
The Results
The Reckon campaign achieved significant outcomes compared to traditional PR, particularly on online channels.
- Ninety-one pieces of coverage, with 76 including quotes from Reckon CEO, showcasing their expertise.
- Seventy-three pieces linked directly to the campaign page on the Reckon website, enhancing their online authority.
- Our effective digital PR strategy has generated an estimated 55.8 million views across various platforms, reaching audiences through outlets like 7News and the Canberra Times.
- A total of 252 brand mentions, elevating Reckon’s presence in the market.
- A notable mention from Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles, underscoring the campaign’s impact.
